In November of 2007, Ray and Jacklyn Rock decided it was time for Ray to break away from his long-time job at Triple E Utility Service and start their own utility locating business, a business which would be based on Ray’s experience in the field of utility locating and a steady commitment to quality, safety and integrity.
With Jacklyn running day to day business in the office and Ray running the field operations, they began their new journey as Excel Underground, LLC.
Raymond Rock has twenty years of experience in the field of utility locating. He graduated from Fox Valley Technical Institute in Appleton, WI in 1985 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Natural Resources Technology.
In 1989, Ray began his career in utility locating with SM&P as a locate technician. He worked several areas and became knowledgeable in locating several different types of utilities. Ray continued to increase his knowledge while at SM&P by volunteering to help in the start-up of Southwest Bell in both St. Louis, MO and in Little Rock, AK. Ray was in time made a supervisor and played a major role in the start-up of the GTE North contract as well as aided in the start-ups of Wisconsin Power & Light and Wisconsin Natural Gas. While at SM&P, Ray also participated in the University of Indianapolis’s Management Development Program.
In 1994 Ray made the move to Triple E Utility Service as a supervisor. Triple E had just started business and Ray left SM&P for the challenge of helping to build a new company. Starting in Omaha, NE he helped out with a major broadband project which brought in contractors from all over the country. He spent two years in Madison and was instrumental in the start-up of Mid Plains Telephone, TCI Cable, Madison Gas & Electric and Sun Prairie Electric. After Madison was set, he continued with the start-up of several other utilities.
Ray’s duties at Triple E continued to grow as he became supervisor of three combined areas covering an area from Sheboygan to the Fox Cities and north to Pembine and Marinette.
In all Ray has had experience in locating for over fifty different utilities in four states and has done hundreds of private locates. He has supervised anywhere from five to twenty five people and has much experience in dealing with clients and employees.
